We are very grateful for whatever support you can give us towards the Lough Derg Pilgrimage and the upkeep of our buildings and facilities on Station Island.
Due to the public health situation and government restrictions in force from time to time, we were unable to open for our usual Pilgrimage Season in 2020 or in 2021.
The loss of income was significant, both from pilgrim fees, and from donations made by pilgrims who come to the Island in the course of the Pilgrimage Season and who are often generous to us in their donations.
We are relieved and delighted that in 2022 we are again welcoming pilgrims both on our One Day Retreats programme and on the traditional Three Day Pilgrimage. Understandably, however, pilgrim numbers have not recovered to the average annual level pre-Covid
The loss of income means we face significant difficulties in the upkeep of the island and in the programme of maintenance work off-season, especially to secure the fabric of the Basilica as it approaches its centenary.
I promise you that whatever you can offer Lough Derg in terms of financial support will be graciously received and carefully put to good use.
I pray daily for those who support Lough Derg in any way, and for their intentions.
