Brought to the Light
Yet another lovely autumn evening
finds me once more here at the quarry.
Such a golden light illumines
the rough face of the higher rocks
above the boulder with the Calvary cross
that they speak to me of Resurrection.
I move in closer towards the wall
down where the sunlight does not reach.
What violence this fractured rock betokens!
I ponder how timeless, watery flow
laid down these sediments in an ancient sea.
But I cannot imagine the tectonic force
that shifted these beds of stone from their slumber
to leave them leaning like this, one on the other,
so that brought to the light here in this quarry
they might speak of Resurrection to me.
