Fr La’s weekly reflection ‘Pause and Ponder’ from along the Pilgrim Path at Lough Derg.
In this autumn season, each time I return to the Pilgrim Path I become more aware of the quiet company of a wonderful range of fungi in the shade beneath the trees.
Most of them are modest, emerging quietly from the damp forest debris. Others, like this little chap, are a bit more showy.
But their underground work goes on unseen all-year-round, in the process of decay and the recycling of nutrients trapped in dead plant matter – work that is vital for the whole ecosystem of the forest.
Lord, let me not care too much if others notice me or not.
Day by day, let me to do what is mine to do.
Help me to play my humble part in the wonderful fabric of life.
